How can you get more activity into your busy day? How can you make yourself leave the office early, or put down the remote and get outside? How can you get to the point where you look forward to being active? The answer to all of these questions is to find an activity you love and think of it as "play."

Expert advice tells you to exercise 20-60 minutes each day. Many people find it difficult to fit this time into their schedules. Not to worry! Research has shown that 2-3 sessions of 10 minutes each can be effective, and perhaps even MORE effective in burning fat.

If exercise is just not your thing, don't despair; there is still hope for you. Just make an effort to get more activity into each day. Given a choice between stairs and the elevator, take the stairs. Park a longer distance away from your destination. Get up to change the television channel instead of using the remote. Look for reasons to walk upstairs in your house. Get up and dance during television commercials. Take your dog for a longer walk, or borrow the neighbor's dog. Look for opportunities to be outside. Sweep the porch, pull weeds, and rake leaves. Each thing that you do counts! Every activity burns more calories than sitting!

Yes, it's possible to lose weight without activity. Many experts would have you believe otherwise, but you can sit down all day and decrease your caloric intake and still lose weight. It's pretty much a guarantee though, that you will not be happy with the way you look once you reach your goal weight. With a decrease in lean muscle mass and an increase in loose skin, you're going to wonder why you worked so hard to achieve the body staring back at you in the mirror.

Obviously, the easiest activity to help you lose weight or maintain your weight is walking. Other than a comfortable pair of shoes, nothing else is needed. It can be done anywhere, anytime, indoors or out. Aim for 30-60 minutes a day and if you get bored easily, find a walking-buddy or use an iPod. One day a week, try to do a longer walk, just to shake things up a little. Walking four miles an hour burns approximately 500 calories but four miles an hour is a pretty fast clip. So...get a good friend or a good set of tunes and get walking!

Another excellent activity is swimming laps. Check out the recreational centers in your city. Many of them will have large indoor pools. Once you get over the bathing suit-in-public issue, and the swim cap issue, and let's not forget the goggle-eyes issue, you'll be amazed at how much you enjoy swimming! It brings back playful memories of childhood. If you're self-conscious, remember that once you're in the pool, no one can see you. It's also one of the few activities where excess weight doesn't work against you. Swimming laps continuously for an hour burns approximately 470-670 calories, depending on your weight.

Joining a gym can be a fun way to exercise and meet people. There are exercise studios that cater to women-only if you find the whole "health club" experience to be too intimidating. If you prefer the privacy of your own home, there are thousands of exercise videos available. These can be purchased at sporting goods stores, bookstores, and online. In addition, many video stores will rent exercise videos and some libraries have them available to be checked out.

Lots of exercise equipment is available and much of it is fun to use. Don't feel, though, that you have to have it to be successful. You can find many items around your house that you can use to help you exercise. Canned goods can be used as hand weights. Broom handles can be used for stretching. Chairs can be used for dips, and walls can be used for standing push-ups.

The benefits of exercise are unbelievable! The coolest benefit is that exercise is the gift that keeps on giving! When you exercise regularly, your body continues to burn more calories even after you've quit working out. What more can you ask for?

Does wrapping your head with saran wrap and using a swim cap work?

Does it keep decently dry in the pool? Anyone ever tried this? I have to take swim for PE at school, and I plan on doing this. I can dry my hair if it gets damp, but I don't have time to dry SOAKING wet hair.

your cap will not prevent your hair from staying 100% dry..

the lower parts, or whatever is closer to the outside of your cap with be wet, but chances are the top will be dry, or damp. Depends on what you do with it.

bottom line, caps won't keep your hair dry, but they should prevent it from being soaked.

also, not related to the topic, have you considered latex or silicon caps?
i think silicon are 10 bucks, but they are...much more compfortable and easier to put on..

latex are like.....half that, if not, free, your team (school team) should provide free latex caps, if not silicon.

It was a hot summer day when we set off for the picnic to a water spot quite close to our home. My husband told me that the day-out was surely going to be great fun for us and our two boisterous kids as well. We packed food, drinks, a change of dress, and other things and got into our car. I saw my husband coming with a big bag and put it in the car boot. When he started the car, I asked him what it was and he whispered "surprise."

As we arrived to the water spot, I was amazed as the place looked so natural and green. As I was helping my husband carry the packages, I found that the "surprise" was an island water float. Our kids were busy playing near the lake. My husband carried the island water float and set it on the lake. Happily, we got into the pool floating and set it sail.

Since the island pool float had three air chambers, it was a smooth sail. The seating was also ultra comfortable and we could also keep cool drinks in the cup holders beside us. After we floated round the lake for some time, we cast the anchor bag. The island water float also had a ladder and two heavy duty handles, so that we could get into water easily and swim around the pool float for some time. Sitting in that swimming pool float and enjoying nature was really a memorable experience for me. My children enjoyed cruising down the lake and they had a wonderful time that day.

I still remember that day and I hear my children talking about it too. Later, we used that pool float in our backyard swimming pool. Even my relatives used to borrow the lounge pool float from us.

Where can I find an inflatable lounge, tube, or float that is sturdy enough for the river?

I'm going on a float trip next weekend and I was looking around for something besides a raft or inner tube to float on. I once saw in a pool supply catalog some things that were meant to be used on the river. They were extra sturdy and made of very durable material. Everything else that I find is meant for swimming pools or just splashing around. Any ideas?

A cup holder or cooler area would be a tremendous bonus!

Chlorine in the swimming pool does not cause hair loss. Otherwise we would see many bald swimmers during the Olympics. I am not saying that chlorine is good for your hair, but chlorine concentrations in the typical swimming pool are not sufficient to cause any permanent hair loss.

However in a particular case in Cincinnati, Ohio, the high school students were experiencing hair loss and the school finally discovered that the pool's chlorine system kept dumping chlorine until the levels were off the charts. The students were not losing their hair, but their hair was so dry and brittle because of the chlorine that their hair broke!

Chlorine in water will not cause our hair to fall off the follicles but it can still be damaging to our hair as it is an oxidizing agent and can suck the moisture from your hair, making it dry and brittle. This is especially so for swimming pools where excessive chlorine has been added. It is therefore important to regularly check your pool's PH balance, especially if you have a home pool.

What can we do to protect our hair?

We should always wet our hair before entering the pool. This is because once our hair is saturated with water, it will not absorb as much chlorine and other chemicals while you swim. But once we get out of the pool, we should still rinse our hair with non-chlorinated water; at least. What I would not recommend is to apply conditioner onto our hair before entering the pool, which I have seen some women do. This often leaves a filmy residue in the water and sometimes even foam for certain conditioners. Let's be considerate to other pool users.

I would recommend a shower immediately after a swim, using a moisturizing body wash that contains glycerin to help moisturize the skin. A clarifying shampoo with conditioner will also help to rid the hair of any chlorine while providing much needed moisture. However if your hair is already badly damaged by chlorinated waters, an intensive moisturizing conditioner will help to treat dry and brittle hair.

How to make a Pond Bike?

ok im 13 and ive been wanting to backflip and 360 my BMX bike I learned trying them off a 4ft dirt ramp with no experiance is kind of Painful I looked into foam pits and those cost a fortune my dad is building a pond to water our MX track and to swim in. If i can build a downhill ramp with a lip at the end into the pond how can i prepare my BMX bike to be able to handle going into the water without the frame filling up with water or rusting and stuff like that. It is a Mirra 540 air so it is a nice bike and I don't wanna trash it but i need a way to do sweet tricks without the whole broken bones thing...another thing to prepare my bike is if i lose the bike in the water is there a way to find it the pond is 12ft deep......so do i need a 13ft thing of string with a bouy on the end of it to tie to the bike?

Go.....buy.....a.......cheap....bmx......bike.

You *will* ruin your nice bike pond jumping. Trust me. If you don't care about your bearings or rusting your frame and other parts, then ok. But there is no way to keep your bike in good shape when you submerge it in dirty water (or clean water, for that matter). Try to pick up a beater bike from a garage sale or craigslist maybe. Around here you can get them for $10 to $20 and have a hundred to pick from.

I can tell you from experience that trying to drag up a 25lb bike from 8' of water is a real hassle. lol. I'm not sure how people do it other than just diving down and fighting back up with it (that's what I had to do). I don't think a string would be a good idea because it would get tangled up too easily. Hopefully just on the bike and not on you and the bike together. Maybe you can rig up a buoy like you said...something attached to the bike like a throw-bag so that it'll all be coiled up while you flip and spin but where the float can come loose easily when the bike goes under.

Have fun...smart thinking to go with the water jumps. Broken bones do suck. )

You practically have your whole life stored in your iPhone. All your friends, officemates, family's numbers and files are there. It is your email, your camera and your personal assistant all in one. It even has a name!

Can a Foam Pool Float (shiny vinyl sided) be smoothly cut somehow?

I want to make sailboat cockpit cushions out of this material and need square and smooth edges. I wonder if a hot knife or
electric meat cutter could do this job?

Hot knives are used to cut most original pieces of foam into their final shapes. So yes, a hot knife will create a very clean edge. Using a serrated blade is a bad idea, as it will cause the foam to flake away in unpredictable ways, preventing a clean line. Straight bladed knives should work just fine, but may result in exposed foam cells, leaving an ugly, exposed edge.

Some foam products have thin plastic coverings which may melt back once heated. Make sure that the foam product you are cutting is a closed-cell foam without any outer coverings to prevent any complications. You'll know that it's closed foam if you tear a piece of it off, revealing even color throughout, and if the exposed inner part doesn't absorb any liquids.
I've seen several blue pool loungers made of closed cell foam. They got a thicker, heavier feel, that is very elastic. Those are a pretty safe bet on being appropriate for your needs.

Working with foam can be tricky, make sure that your hot knife doesn't burn away the parts of the foam you want to keep or causes excessive shrinking.

You might also order neoprene (a type of closed-cell foam used in maritime products) or other foam sheets from an internet based sound dampening company. They come in a variety thicknesses. I know you just want to sit on it, but neoprene is used a lot for sound dampening as well as for cushions, so don't be afraid of buying it from a company that mostly sells speakers.
I've found that it's easiest to cut neoprene with scissors or a straight bladed knife. Even a pizza cutter will work.

This article is about the best men's swimwear out there. Let me first say that I am a woman. Therefore, I am not judging the best men's swimwear based on how comfortable it is, but on how appealing it is to any onlooker.

The "Speedo"

I swam on a swim team and played water polo in high school, so let me say that "speedos" have a special place in my heart. I love them! Let me rephrase that -- I love them only when they are being worn for sport. This sort of men's swimwear was most definitely not made for simply hanging around on the beach.

Also, there is a certain way that a "speedo" should be worn. It must be worn low. In fact, the men who wear the "speedos" in the best possible way are California men. California men know how to wear their men's swimwear - they wear their "speedos" super low and tight, and they usually reveal just a little bit of butt-crack. Pardon me for saying so, but "speedos" look great when worn this way, especially if the wearer has a swimmer's body! "Speedos" should never be worn higher on the hips than they are in the middle - this is a horrible look and creates a bit of the "banana hammock" look.

Also, there are fantastic "speedos" out on the market now that are of a square shape rather than a U-shape. These square "speedos" look good on many body types.

Note: I have put the term "speedo" in quotes because "speedo" is actually just the brand - it is not the type of suit. Speedo makes suits for women, as well (this is similar to how we call tissue "Kleenex" and bandages "Band-Aids").

Surfing Shorts

Lace-up surfing shorts are a great sort of men's swimwear. Practically any man can wear surfing shorts and look good, even if he is not out surfing. The long length of surfing shorts and the adjustable lace-up front make them ideal for most men. The only problem is that they do not allow a man's thighs to ever see the sun, so his thighs remain white, all through the summer.

Tip: Yes, super low surfing shorts can look very sexy, but do not wear them obscenely low. Also, do not wear them so low that you must also wear your underwear beneath them. Nobody wants to see your underwear hanging out of your suit! Besides, wet cotton briefs boxers are very uncomfortable and take a long time to dry.

Swim Trunks

As far as men's swimwear goes, swim trunks are the most basic sort of swimwear. This does not mean that swim trunks are not great men's swimwear. Men of any age can wear swim trunks, from young boys to old men. Swim trunks are great because they usually have a lining so that they are very comfortable and less revealing. Many swim trunks have elastic or drawstring waists, so they are easy to put on and to adjust. Also, swim trunks are a good length - they are not too terribly short, but you can still tan your legs. They are not too terribly long - you can still swim laps around the pool and be comfortable in them.

The Thong

All that I have to say about the thong is -- do not wear one! A thong should not even be included as an article of men's swimwear.
